Job Overview:As a Theatre Assistant you will assist Theatre Technicians, Nurses, Surgeons and Anesthetists in recovery room, CSSD, Post Anesthesia Care Unit and Operating room.Duties and Responsibilities:1. Dealing with Patientsa. Assist with the transfer of patients to theatre in time for operationb. Ensure patients safety in a clean and tidy environmentc. Communicates courteously and professionallyd. Maintain client and patient privacy and confidentiality at all times2. Infection Control & Theatre Cleanlinessa. Ensure proper cleaning and disinfection of the theatres after every procedureb. Ensure proper waste segregation and disposal and waste management per the Infection Prevention Control (IPC) manualc. Sluice soiled linen and maintain a linen stock count register.3. General Theatre Assistancea. Act as a runner and provide necessary support to the operating room teamb. Autoclaving, sterilization and packing of instrumentsc. Scrubbing for casesd. Assisting in surgery4. Collaborate with the shift leader/nurse in-charge to ensure that the unit has the necessary equipment/resources and in good working condition.5. Ensure financial objectives are met by prudent use of resources.6. Ensure that TWH corporate governance policies are adhered to.a. Prevent, detect and report any fraud or criminal activity.b. Fully implement internal audit recommendations and attain satisfactory ratings in subsequent audits.7. Read, understand and be conversant with all TWH systems, policies and procedures especially policies pertaining to provision of medical services.8. Record and report all sentinel incidents/events within 24 hours using the provided tools9. Prevention of clinical errors by accurate recording of vital signs, correct patient identification, proper filling of patient charts and report abnormal findings to the nurse on duty10.Participate in emergency response11.Assist in restraining violent patients e.g. ECT patients12.Participate in the ward handover exercise of patients in PACU.13.Client satisfaction (patient, consultants and others )- ensure client satisfaction through quality of care, communication, feedback and escalation to the nurse/nurse in charge14.Assist in transporting bodies to the morgue when called upon15.Remain well groomed and have your respective uniform, name tags etc16.Any other duty as assigned by your immediate supervisor in line with the job description
