Job Overview:
As a Nurse at Tuungane Woodley Hospital, you will play a crucial role in delivering quality nursing care while adhering to our hospital's policies, protocols, and standards. Your responsibilities will include carrying out nursing duties, maintaining infection control standards, ensuring proper inventory management, supervising nurse assistants, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Patient Assessment: Conducting initial and ongoing assessments of patients,
including checking vital signs, reviewing medical histories, and observing
symptoms.
2. Patient Care: Providing direct patient care, including administering
medications, changing dressings, assisting with personal hygiene, and ensuring
patient comfort.
3. Monitoring Patient Progress: Continuously monitoring and recording
patients' conditions, noting any changes, and communicating these to the
healthcare team.
4. Medical Procedures: Assisting with or performing routine medical
procedures such as inserting IVs, drawing blood, and preparing patients for
surgeries or diagnostic tests.
5. Documentation: Maintaining accurate and detailed patient records,
including documenting care provided, medications administered, and any changes
in condition.
6. Patient Education: Educating patients and their families about health
conditions, treatment plans, and post-discharge care. Providing instructions on
medication use, diet, and lifestyle changes.
7. Collaboration: Working closely with doctors, specialists, and other
healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings.
8. Emergency Response: Responding to medical emergencies, providing
immediate care, and assisting with life-saving procedures. Being prepared to
act quickly and effectively in critical situations.
9. Equipment Management: Ensuring that medical equipment is properly
maintained, sanitized, and functional. Reporting any malfunctions or issues.
10. Patient Advocacy: Acting as an advocate for patients, ensuring their
needs and concerns are addressed. Supporting patients emotionally and providing
reassurance.
11. Medication Administration: Administering prescribed medications
accurately and monitoring for side effects or adverse reactions. Ensuring
medication safety and compliance.
12. Infection Control: Following strict infection control protocols to
prevent the spread of infections. Educating patients and visitors on hygiene
practices.
13. Wound Care: Providing wound care, including cleaning, dressing, and
monitoring healing. Educating patients on wound care management at home.
14. Discharge Planning: Assisting with discharge planning, including
coordinating with other healthcare providers and arranging follow-up
appointments or home care services.
15. Patient Comfort and Support: Ensuring that patients are comfortable,
addressing their concerns, and providing emotional support. Building rapport
and trust with patients and their families.
16. Supervision and Training: Supervising and mentoring junior nurses,
nursing students, and support staff. Providing guidance and training as needed.
17. Quality Improvement: Participating in quality improvement initiatives,
audits, and research projects to enhance patient care and hospital operations.
18. Compliance: Ensuring compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and
regulatory standards. Adhering to ethical and legal standards in nursing
practice.
19. Communication: Effectively communicating with patients, families, and
healthcare team members. Providing clear and concise information and
instructions.
20. Professional Development: Engaging in ongoing education and training to
stay current with the latest nursing practices and medical advancements.
Attending workshops, seminars, and continuing education courses.
Requirements:
- Diploma/Degree in nursing from a recognized medical training institution.
- Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya and possess a valid practicing license.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a qualified Midwife, preferably in a hospital setup.
- Proficiency in computer application skills.
- Strong commitment to patient care and excellent communication skills.
